Forever marching to the beat of his own drum, LUCKI has an undeniable knack for crafting meditative rhymes, coupled with his attentive ear for production. Taking a look at his position as an underground icon, he’s back with a LONEWOLF-directed video for “U.G.K,” from his new collab album with F1LTHY of Working On Dying. The visual bounces back and forth between behind the scenes footage of LUCKI shooting the video then jumps to the Chicago rapper throwing down bars as he speeds in his foreign car. Full of addicting bars and flawless production, “U.G.K.” is a highlight track from the duo’s recently released album WAKE UP LUCKI.
Coming in at 12 tracks, WAKE UP LUCKI is a testament to why these two artists have been heralded and revered in the underground for the last several years. On the ones and twos, you’ve got F1LTHY, one part of the acclaimed producer collective out of Philly, Working On Dying, known for producing several hits from Playboi Carti’s Whole Lotta Red, as well as other bangers for Lil Uzi Vert, Bladee, Matt Ox, and more. His spacey, synth-led beats provide a perfect contrast to LUCKI’s trademark lackadaisical flow and distinct bars that have earned him a cult-like following on the internet and beyond.
Some highlights in the tracklist include recent single, “NEPTUNE V.S INDUSTRY,” as well as unreleased cuts like “U.G.K,” where LUCKI looks back at his come-up, and battles with substance abuse, and “2019” where LUCKI reminisces on a lost love, a theme that is prevalent throughout the album. To me, this is LUCKI’s most honest album to date. Top it off with some of the best beats I’ve heard from F1LTHY all year, and these two really have something special on this album.
