Mixtape: Wacotron “Out The Blue” + Video: “Game Time”

Texas has a long and influential history in the rap game, but it’s rare that Waco-based artists get the shine they deserve. Wacotron, however, brings the big confidence and unwavering energy that made him one of the most exciting voices coming out of his city. Bringing some of that well-needed Texas heat into the holidays, Wacotron shares his new mixtape, Out The Blue. Including production from Southside & 808 Mafia and Marshmello, and features from Doe Boy and Derez De’Shon, Out The Blue is out now via Pick Six Records. In addition to sharing the 11-track project, Waco shares the video for “Game Time.” In the DJ Black Messiah-directed video, Waco makes a set of police lights his spotlight as he boasts his status as the face of the city and warns his opps not to cross him.

Repping his city from his name to his rhymes, Wacotron delivers in-your-face rhymes that pay homage to the Lone Star state’s unique musicality. Out The Blue boasts a range of catchy, head-bobbing bangers like Time and “Switch” ft. Derez De’Shon, but Waco also leaves room for personal reflection with the mellowing “The Blues,” where he ruminates on the highs and lows of his come up, but expresses his gratitude for the journey. I may not know much about Waco, TX, but Wacotron makes me optimistic to see what other hidden gems emerge from the city.
