Music Review | EST Gee, KYLE, Ella Mai, Kura & Nija

new music

Here’s this weeks’ rundown of new announcements and new music from some of your favorite artists in the game.

EST Gee – “Who Hotter Than Gee

Who’s hotter than EST Gee in music right now? The Louisville hitmaker continues his winning streak with another braggadocious banger titled “Who Hotter Than Gee.” The song finds Gee flexing his lyrical dexterity over a skittering hi-hat remake of Plies’ 2008 single, “Who Hotter Than Me.” With some help from frequent collaborator Diesel Filmz, the video embodies the essence of Gee’s moneyed lifestyle, adding fire to the flame for a visual aid that cements his position as the hottest rapper out, literally.

KYLE – It’s Not So Bad

KYLE drops his long-awaited new album, It’s Not So Bad. An eleven-track release, this project provides fans with a glimpse into his incessant, feel-good sound. His singsong voice serenades listeners with optimism, capturing his infectious energy on wax in a way that’s both comforting and didactic. This release coincides with KYLE’s North American tour – alongside special guest Col3trane and Leven Kali – in support of his new project, kicking off this winter in Minneapolis, MN.

Ella Mai – “DFMU”

Ella Mai is back in her bag (and feelings) with new single, “DFMU.” This track finds Ella speaking from the heart about how it feels to fall in love and the medley of emotion that ensues. A snapshot of Ella at her most vulnerable, “DFMU” drives home the message of how toxic relationships can taint our perception of love.

Kura – “Hold It Up

Kura has arrived. He’s a Detroit native, SOSSHOUSE signee who’s destined to have a breakout year in music. Produced by Pi’erre Bourne, “Hold It Up” finds the 18-year-old rapper analyzing his come-up over a choppy guitar sequence. Now signed to Pi’erre’s SOSSHOUSE imprint (Chavo, Jelly, J Billz, Sharc and more), Kura is gearing up to release more new content later this year. If this song is any indication of what we can expect from him going forward, he’s a shoo-in for making someone’s artist to watch list in due time.

Nija – Don’t Say I Didn’t Warn You

Capitol Records recording artist Nija releases her debut solo project, Don’t Say I Didn’t Warn You. After lending her pen for a score of singles on Billboard’s Hot 100 hits, the Grammy award-winning contributor is ready to bask in the spotlight for her own music. Don’t Say I Didn’t Warn You is branded by love, pain, and vulnerability: the perfect storm for an R&B project by today’s standards.
