OMB Peezy “My Dawg”

Applying his motormouthed southern drawl to the high-energy instrumentals of his adopted homeland of Northern California, OMB Peezy breaks down the boundaries of regional rap. Taking the time to pour one out for a close friend, Peezy shares the mournful, yet defiant “My Dawg.” Digging deep into his roots, eschewing Bay Area styles for a piano-and-organ-led southern instrumental, Peezy mournfully recounts painful memories, wishing for one last peaceful moment with his lost friend and lashing out at those he believes is responsible: “Every morning I wake up and I’m waitin on you to call/I hear your voice when I’m in the studio tellin’ me ‘Imma ball’/We gon’ hold court in this street, fuck the law/You wanted me to win, these n*ggas waitin’ on me to fall.” Premiered by XXL, “My Dawg,” which follows the lyrical loose single “Got You,” is the latest single off Loyalty Over Love, Peezy’s mixtape, releasing tomorrow.
