If you’ve never been to a Rod Wave concert, this is your sign to go to one. The weekend before Christmas, December 21, 2024, the trap-soul rapper’s “Last Lap Tour” made its way to Raleigh, North Carolina. Fans from all corners of the Tar Heel State rallied to the Lenovo Center for the one-night-only event in support of Rod Wave’s sixth studio album, Last Lap.

The stadium was filled with concertgoers of all ages, including millennials and children who were chaperoned by their parents. As the lights dimmed low and the first performer, Dess Dior, hit the stage, the excitement was palpable. It wasn’t long before her set ended and fans shifted their attention to the next opening act, Lil Poppa. The Florida riser kept fans engaged, closing out his performance with some help from fun-sized Poppa — aka his son.

In a similar fashion, multi-platinum recording artist Toosii took the stage with his son in his arms. However, he was quickly relieved of his daddy duties when South Coast Music Group CEO, Arnold Taylor, surprised him with a plaque to commemorate “Favorite Song” going 5X Platinum. Toosii — who’s a Raleigh native — had his own surprise for fans, too, calling on DaBaby to join him onstage. It was a homecoming moment that was well-received by the masses as everyone screamed with excitement.

Next up was Moneybagg Yo, who treated fans to free merchandise by literally tossing items into the crowd throughout his performance. As he worked the stage, Bagg shared the spotlight with his backup dancers. They were just as turnt as the Memphis rapper, adding an extra flair to the set.

Right before Rod took the stage, a pre-recorded PSA on concert safety flashed across monitors throughout the stadium. The message — delivered by Rod Wave himself — reassured fans this show wouldn’t be rescheduled or postponed, which was a sigh of relief considering what has happened in the past. Naturally, a wave of excitement broke out as fans braced themselves for the “Heart on Ice” rapper to make his appearance. Once the theatrical smoke cleared, the audience erupted into cheers. Hours of waiting in line and braving cold weather led up to this moment where Christmas came early for thousands of people.

Rod Wave went on to perform a few songs off his latest project, Last Lap, but majority of his setlist featured fan-favorites like “Cuban Links,” “Girl of My Dreams,” “Rags2Riches,” and more. As he progressed through his catalog, the massive crowd sung along to every word. There was never a dull moment. Without a doubt, Rod rides his own wave of momentum, and when it comes to frontrunners in the trap-soul space, anyone else pales in comparison.
