ShooterGang Kony just dropped the video for his single “IZ U BROKE!?” in celebration of his birthday today. The track is from Kony’s most recent album, Starshooter, which released in August. Pitchfork gave the album a rave review saying “The Sacramento rapper is more relaxed and nonchalant on his latest project, a mood that suits his knack for finding humanity in the darkest of situations” and HotNewHipHop praised Kony as “one of the most prolific rappers to have come out of the West Coast in recent memory.” Kony just featured on G-Eazy’s new single “Now & Later” and will be performing at Rolling Loud California in December. Throughout the past year, Kony has continued to build off the strength of his February 2020 album, Red Paint Reverend, October follow-up, Still Kony 2, and December’s F12. Critic Jeff Weiss called Red Paint Reverend “one of the best albums of the year” and Pitchfork said, “the Oak Park rapper’s new album is one of his meanest and funniest, cementing him as a fresh voice in California rap.” Billboard, Pigeons & Planes, The New Yorker and The Fader continued to champion Kony as one of California’s most compelling new voices and his streaming numbers spiked with “Charlie” passing 30 million listens and “A Sinner’s Story” earning over five million views on YouTube.
