New Album: Emerging Artist Wessmode Explores The Difficulties of Navigating Mental Health in The “Wessmode EP.1”

Wessmode takes on the inevitable toll that mental health takes on a
person in “Wessmode EP.1.” His sensitivity to the topic comes from his
journey in battling his inner demons. The way these verses unspool shows
the hardship taken on to take control of one’s life entirely. Production has a
dark, threatening aspect to it. Nice trap beats, deep bass, and the sound’s
heaviness work perfectly alongside his message’s heaviness. Anxiety,
depression, sadness, and anger are woven into the announcement of the
whole EP.

“S.A.D.” sets the tone. Hushed, clipped, mournful melodies linger before
the beat drops as pure nightmare fuel. On “Waiting,” a smidgeon of hope
radiates. The sound’s warmth helps give it a purposeful stance, like looking
into the future with guarded optimism. He captures a moment of peace in
his mind, for it has this grandeur, all the way down to see what his father is
reading. It is highly personal. Looping through “Round & Round (feat. AW)”
has a conversation tenor. The loveliness of the song, the way he takes on
the difficulties of a relationship, feels visceral. Crisp snare hits give “BM’s” a
clear-cutting stance. He has a rebellious streak, one that defines the hazy
atmospherics. Nimble with its quiet stance, things come to a careful close
in the intimate “Calling My Phone.”

In the emotionally riveting “Wessmode EP.1,” Wessmode’s ability to draw
parallels between his life and society is pure poignancy.
