ICYMI | Tyler, The Creator, Paris Texas, MVW, PRICE, and NBDY

new music week 38

As we enter the second quarter of the year, hip-hop is expanding. Now, more than ever, musicians have been releasing content at an alarming rate. With festival season in full swing and tours being announced by the day, it’s no surprise that artists are cranking out tracks every week. But let’s face it – weekends are short, and in most cases, a lot of good music gets lost in the shuffle. From Tyler, The Creator’s deluxe edition of CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST, to Paris Texas’ first single of the year, the game is starting to heat up just like the weather outside. Still, there’s more to unpack here. Check out a few of our favorite drops from this week.

Tyler, The Creator, CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST: The Estate Sale

Two years later, Tyler, The Creator is still reveling in the success of his Grammy-winning album, CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST. This time around, he introduces eight new tracks, more self-directed videos, new verses from Vince Staples and A$AP Rocky, and more in-your-face energy over atmospheric beats. DJ Drama is still yelling in the background for good measure, but CMIYGL: The Estate Sale is further proof that Tyler isn’t defined by convention. He’s a genre disruptor in the truest sense.

Paris Texas, PANIC!!!

Paris Texas starts off the new year in the second quarter with “PANIC!!!” The manic new song arrives on the cusp of their Coachella debut, appearing out of nowhere with track artwork that’s highly questionable. It’s also the first offering from the band’s upcoming debut album, a telltale sign that alt-rap is on the rise.

MVW & Valee, Yo Yo feat. Tony Shhnow

LA-based producer MVW (Michael Vincent Waller) is back with his second release of the year, “Yo Yo” with Valee and Tony Shhnow. Simple and emphatic, the track is laced with a spacey soundscape that leaves room for Tony’s conversational flow. With Valee on the hook, “Yo Yo” is a sonic rumination about the ups and downs of life.

PRICE & Sage the Gemini, FOO

Inland Empire rapper PRICE keeps his Saggin & Braggin Campaign alive with new single “FOO” featuring Sage the Gemini. The high-energy track is the latest example of chantlike anthems that lean into PRICE’s meticulous approach to flood the game with content. Over a bold, bouncy instrumental, “FOO” sees the CLRD Entertainment founder and Sage finding every which way to go nuts as they trade verses about acting out of character.

NBDY, Take Control

R&B’s lone wolf NBDY returns to share brand new single “Take Control.” His approach to lust makes for a bedroom anthem that promotes a different level of intimacy, backed by a raw and strikingly honest songwriting that highlights someone who is in complete control of their artistic output.
