Stream: That Mexican OT “Pretty Rick”

Today, South Texas wild child That Mexican OT guns for summer domination with his new single “Pretty Rick,” which soundtracks stories of his raunchy exploits with rumbling bass and snarling swagger. Listen HERE via Manifest Music/Geffen Records. Letting loose on a laid-back, jazz-soaked beat produced by BumAssJalen, August Pierre, and Davaughn Canterbury, “Pretty Rick” showcases That Mexican OT’s machine gun-style flow and nimble wordplay.

“Pretty Rick” is a euphoric account of That Mexican OT’s player status, and it’s also a reminder to haters that after he steals your girl, he’s not afraid to pull up on you if you have a problem with it. “I be creepin I be crawling Ima slide on em ride on em / Like fuck it put that 9 on em,” he raps viciously on the hook. The track is the latest cut off That Mexican OT’s forthcoming full-length project, scheduled for release later this year. If it’s any indication, fans are in for something special, and those who haven’t yet encountered his dizzying raps won’t know what hit them.

The track arrives after the introspective “Kick Doe Click” and the unrelenting anthem “Ben Over.” That Mexican OT says all the different styles and sounds are pulled together by design. “There’s no specific message or a single vibe. We’re just having fun,” he says. “I got boom-bap in there; beats from Louisiana and back to Texas. It’s going to be a rollercoaster ride, and I’m so excited for my fans to hear it.”

That Mexican OT is the fiery alias of Mexican-American rapper Virgil René Gazca, a Bay City native raised in Austin and nourished by the Texas streets. He began spitting as young as 4-years-old and got his first album feature by the age of 10. Now a fully grown artist, That Mexican OT has developed a signature style melding speed-raps, gritty boasts, and exciting shout-outs to his Mexican heritage on singles like “La Muerte” and “La Cobra,” which feature dizzying bilingual bars. With “Pretty Rick,” Mexican OT reminds us that he’s the present and future of Southern rap—and that he’s just getting started.
