Video: BlocBoy JB “Home Alone”

Today, Memphis rap star Blockboy JB returns with a celebratory video for his fiery single “Home Alone” produced by Tay Keith. The clip, which finds the MC plotting a party for all his friends, shows off Blocboy JB’s playful side-a throwback to the good old days when mom and dad were out of the house and the only thing to worry about was whether or not you’d get caught for having too much fun.

Filled with Blocboy JB’s signature ad libs, which serve as an extra layer of percussion, the track allows the gifted MC to showcase some of his most clever bars, stringing together a run of intensely quotable one-liners. “This the life I chose / Call me Kleenex in the street / ‘Cuz I’ma wipe its nose, “he raps. He later alludes to the song’s title, playing on the theme by spitting, “I just set up traps like It’s Home alone.” The video plays on the title even further, capturing JB early in the morning, hassled by his mom to get ready for school. As soon as the door closes, though, he gets moving on some plans, inviting everyone to what will surely be the party of the year…at least until the cops show up. It’s fun and frantic, as Blocboy JB’s best work has been.
